De’Ang Village - 2nd Training Session
Monday, March 17th, 2008This training was also with the De’Ang ethnic minority group though with a different group than the previous training. Three villages had people at the training which was held in the largest of the village’s administration compound. Over 175 people showed up! There was lots of talking, Q&A, games and songs with an HIV/AIDS prevention theme. Lots of smiles were passed on both sides and lots of energy. It went well considering how BIG of a group there was.
This trip I invited a Canadian friend who has been working here in Hong Kong for 4 years, Michael Lang, to join us. He has been raising funds for NGOs over the past 3 years and is very interested in helping us with our work in Yunnan.
He had a great time helping with the set-up and execution of the project. The training is in a very remote place and its quite an experience seeing all the people in their traditional dress participating in the training. There was also some local dancing done this time which was a pretty cool experience, and like always, eating the local dishes with our group both before and after the training is amazing. Great food, though VERY different than what we would usually order. Michael also follows the same rule of ask what we are eating AFTER we tried it. Nice work.
Michael is also a tech guy and will be helping me set up a blog/web site. I have found that there is a fair amount of interest here in HK in supporting this kind of work so we are going to attempt raising some funds locally. Wish me luck!
